Bresá, YOU ARE THE MAN !!!!

What a proof for my helmet. Iam very happy that you have got this helmet, although it looks like all of your guys NSKK helmets have a nicer decal than mine.

This is another proof for the "Speer" Theorie.

Now, is anybody able to tell why they removed the red part of the tri-color ?????

well, I'm thinking of something right now....

Eagle is grey/silver, Schield is black, white and red, but red is very notable. Maby to camouflage it?

                        Just a thought

                          Legion Speer

The Speer Legion is created in 1942 and bears the name of the Reich minister Albert Speer, in charge of armament. Originally composed of Russian POW, THE Speer Legion in sent in September 1942 in Atlantic Ocean military seaport for some non-combatant works. But at end of 1943, the Legion is militarized and monitored by the NSKK. At the same period, about 500 French were recruited, mainly as drivers for the Arbeitsamt. During the summer 44, the Legion is engaged in Normandy and later in Italy. Some of the French Legionnaires will join the Waffen SS, some will be recruited by the Technishe Nothilfe, a technical group in charge of repairs for communication and transportation network.

Nice helmets you have, men! Personly I have 4 steel hemets with the NSKK decal, 1 M35, 1 M40 (with handpainted national colours) both have blue grey painting for the Lw; 1 feldgrau M42 (with a large eagle but I'm not sure if genuine) 1 olive green civic M34 double decals with an uncommon eagle.
I think that the scroll with "NSKK" were removed for use by the Transportkorps Speer who was formed in 1944 with former members of the NSKK. This Korps don't wear NSKK rank insignia, but the Legion Speer did.
                            Cheers

                              Hi,

many thanks for the additional info about the Speer unit.

What do you think is the reason for removing the red part of the decals ??
Why were these Speer guys allowed to change an official emblem ??

Guymauve, have you got any pic of your NSKK helmets to show ?

                              Thanks to all, Jens

                                Hi Sander,

i think when you look from a distance the white part of the decal would be the most visible point on a helmet, the red almost looks dark for a sniper. If it were for camoflage they would have removed the whole tri-color IMO.
Also the fact that we have two helmets with the same features leeds me to believe that it was done for a more special reason. But we can only guess.

                                Best wishes Jens
