What a great thread my friend and nicely done.

Good to see it pinned for collectors interested in insignia.

        Best regards
        Paul.

A small digression from the main theme.

                      Returning to the main theme.

Two other examples of 1940 composite collar patches:

                      - Medical officer of the Puglie Infantry Division

                      - Engineers' officer of the Brennero Infantry Division

This is a very hybrid case: open collar and WW1 insignia. It was used for a very short period of time from November 14, 1933 to May 27, 1935 before the adoption of the definitive rectangular type by the non-commissioned officers and troops of the divisional infantry. In this case 24th Infantry Regiment Como:

The evolution of the braids of the General Staff:

left: 1914 (during my life I saw only one specimen of them in the shop of a well-known Roman seller about forty years' ago)

right: 1940 (superimposed on the two-pointed red flames on blue background rectangle of an armored unit)

Now I will give a try and I hope the image will be not too big. In my files I have since a long time the schematism of all the possible combinations of the collar patches of all the Italian divisions and departments of the Second World War. As far as I am aware, I have never seen it published by anyone. Now I try to load the first one: north African self-transportable infantry divisions
