I'm lost of words!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!PaoloM
PS:just a short note: it looks a bit strange only the fact of the traces of
rust inside the vent holes.I've thougt that they used normal rivets not
painted with the special Balma paint. That's probably the why of those
traces of rust.Just my opinion that doesn't decrease the value os such a helmet!Last edited by Paolo Marzetti; 03-18-2009, 02:54 PM.

Nice one, and I understand it's not a helmet people can see every day.
Thanks for the precisions Paolo, and yes, the chinstrap will remain as it is : the replacement is not a problem on french or german helmets for instance, but here it's true that it may hurt the originality of the helmet (reason why I never done it). Anyway, as I guess this lid will leave one day or another (I'm now in german and french WWII helmets exclusively), I stopped worrying about that point.
By the way, happy to see you here, Paolo. Even if I stopped collecting worldwide helmets a while ago already, I still have in my documentation the 1973 edition (!) of "Elmetti 1915-73", a book that always was of a great help ; even if my skills in italian are not what I'd like them to be ! Well, maybe will I send it to you one of these days, in order to have it dedicated.

Do you mind if I ask you two questions ?
What do this "MRM" marking stands for ? (I already noticed it on helmets here, but as it's surely obvious for you, I didn't see any clue about it.)
Do you know if a specific Regia Marina unit was in Nizza at that time ?
Grazie mille !
PS : I managed to find an original unissued chinstrap some time later, to replace the one that was cut, but never decided myself to do the job for 25 years ! Not really convinced it would be wise to, so it sat in the liner for all those years.
Productions for the RM was different from the REI
here a interesting link with other marks:

Very interesting the badge on the you helmet, no problem about the chinstrap is it good with that breack too!!

Thanks for the reply and the precisons, Lafitte.
Yes, an italian collector friend saw this one a few years back, and confirmed this marking was specific to Marina helmets, but without being able to tell what it really meant. I wasn't aware that the production was different for marine equipments, and the "Modello Regia Marina" theory stands very well in this case.
Thanks for the link too, but without being registered in this forum, pics are not visible to the simple visitor. As these pics and posts there are yours, maybe could you post them here, it would IMO be a great addition to this thread.

I remember when you asked me about your helmet...
