Shoulder board or shoulder strap is perfectly acceptable. 22 years in the US Army and I always referred to the ones we wore as boards. Jim

I agree. And it is that way in German as well. Google "Schulterklappen" and see what you get....

“Shoulder Straps: All enlisted personnel wore shoulder straps (Schulterklappen) with all outer garments except camouflage clothing. Shoulder straps worn by NCOs showed the wearer’s rank, whereas it did not with privates.”

I believe that is the strap now in my collection. Had a chance to buy it's late but passed. May not be popular but I like them.
