      Shoulder board or shoulder strap is perfectly acceptable. 22 years in the US Army and I always referred to the ones we wore as boards. Jim

        I agree. And it is that way in German as well. Google "Schulterklappen" and see what you get....

                “Shoulder Straps: All enlisted personnel wore shoulder straps (Schulterklappen) with all outer garments except camouflage clothing. Shoulder straps worn by NCOs showed the wearer’s rank, whereas it did not with privates.”

                “The distinctive insignia for company and field grade officers was the shoulder boards. The German term for shoulder board “Schulterstücke,” was common throughout the Hitler period. However, the long obsolete term, “Achselstücke” was sporadically used, even in official publication, up to 1945."

                    I believe that is the strap now in my collection. Had a chance to buy it's late but passed. May not be popular but I like them.
