With all due respect to you and your friends, I suppose you well know who was the previous owner.

Fight against dead members is disrespect and I suspect this thread is going in that direction, very sad

I think this is a very good cautionary tale, and I do not think that disrespect was intended toward the former owner.

Obviously there are still a lot of sentiments remaining under that thin ego surface....my God.

I agree to confine ourselves - as ever - to play it solely on the content (i.e. items) and NOT the person, dead or alive for that matter.

Regardless of the owner, or former owner, it is imperative that the items be discussed so that any potential buyer is confident in what he is buying, weighing the pros and cons of the discussion. I certainly like to know educated opinions on some expensive items that I am seeking to add to my collection. It is most important to have all the information when it is time to sell. I think this is a perfect example of knowing the value when the time has come to dispose of a collection.

            Hritz's Razor of Relative Value:

The value of any item is in equal opposite relation to the length of the explanation.

To make it simple: the longer you have to explain it, the shorter the price.

Of course no disrespect was intended but when such a big pile of high end fake crap hits the market then any potential buyers should be warned.

Or maybe it is best to say nothing so several can get screwed.

does it mean that if you pay for this, no matter the originality of what you are selling, you are still a welcomed sponsor, if it is not offered on estand ?

They don't get first crack at e-stand, or anything else. Their word is not better than anybody else's. It simply means they get to advertise here."

Don't care who the former owner was -- alive or disceased. I just want to thank Glenn for the head's up! It took some guts as I imagine there will be some hurt egos around....

A pity you can't see that, but I figured you would start with this nonsense.

I commented on the uniforms before knowing who the previous owner was. Knowing that fact does not change my opinions of the items in question. If you think about it, pretty much everything that we collect has a deceased former owner. Who owned what should not have any impact on the merits of an item, good or bad.

I have no dog in this fight as I never knew Richard (unfortunately) nor did I ever engage in any sort of discussion on uniform items with him. In my opinion the former ownership of an item makes no difference in terms of analysis. When I pass on, if I leave any of my collection, I would expect the same thing.

Thanks for the heads-up Glenn. We have to make these things public.

Not doing so when you see that items are bad is the worst thing for this hobby in the world. Worse then a Global crisis.
And of course NO disrespect to the former owner.

There is just something slightly disturbing about this entire thread. To start with the statement that very much paints everything with the same brush and to tarnish all appears to be trying just a little bit too hard.

I'm only a "little person" in this world and wouldn't normally post in a thread such as this, but this just feels a bit wrong.

thank you for this response Glenn.
i have nothing to say about warning potential buyers about stuff, whoever is or was its previous owner, so everybody can make his own opinion about its originality.
but i don't share the forum unethical and pragmatic philosophy you exposed : professional sellers are allowed to advertise here, provided that they sell questionable or fake items to buyers everywhere else but here.
to warn about fake stuff, but avoiding to denounce the professional seller who sells it althought he is a WAF member,
realy too bad, because it affects the credibility of this forum.
                              just my opinion.

Well, I have the doubt You started this thread according to your friends (post n.11 by Mr. Zahn say all) for your satisfaction, I hope to be wrong.

About the originality of the items posted here, I never said what I think about because unfortunatly we are not talking about militaria.
