I think these kinda skulls were high quality buntmetal, even burried for a long time they will shine like a star when cleaned up .., I would like to see one one from the hoard cleaned in silver dip .., this means we will see a bright silver skull with bright silver prongs and bright silver silver solder.
Same as other buntmetal cap insignia, the silver is very tough.

    Jos.

The Berlin skulls were silver plated brass, and shine when polished.

If silver plated brass we're talking about apples and oranges, because the crap skulls and other insignia of that guy are made of some kind of alloy etc..

thanks for posting these additional pics ..

The SS-Sonderkommando Jueterbog (and the SS-SK Zossen) dressed like this....................

It's a pity we don't have a close-up of the TK on the Kraetzchen.

The best we have is a still from the SS camp in the film 'Triumph of the Will' which shows an SS field cap in 1934 with what appears to be the second type Berlin Hoard skull attached. The Leibstandarte man wearing it was in all likelihood a veteran of SK-Jueterbog or SK-Zossen.

                Thanks, Jos.

The Berlin originals are very good quality............... can't be bent, firm prongs with professional soldering, etc. etc.

                  Jos.

I think that one is a standard Prussian TK.

Very unusual to see a cap TK on the tropical panzer tunic!

same scull after very mild cleaning (all silver now and still lots of patina left)

                        Hi Robin,
Is that picture scene really in Triumph of the Will? I've seen different cuts of it, but never that scene. The scene I'm familiar with is of the young SS man wearing an SS tellermütze eating something, but I've never seen this group shot.

I noted the backing material is the same as your initial images- Top skull is also reportedly from a Berlin Factory

So with Robins reposting of info from elsewhere-

                              1) There was a real hoard (somewhere).

                              2) Sellers are claiming take fake items are from the documented hoard with the hope of "cashing in" on the real find.

Why is this difficult to understand?

By the way, are you "toxic gas" on this forum. I noted the backing material is the same as your initial images- Top skull is also reportedly from a Berlin Factory

The backing material is not the same if you look closely...my backing material is a standard US Army black cover 3 ring binder...I have no clue what the other backing is, but not the same.

That just goes to show you that you are only seeing what you want to see......
