Thats a nice example but unfortunately its not a period piece, still would like to own it as a representative example. Cannot go wrong at that price and thanks for posting it Gene.

        Tom your up!

Please check out this thread on a sniper badge I was offered. It looks remarkably like the originally posted example.

                    One cannot make that statement.
Yes, it is not an accepted original - but it may very well be a period piece.

                        Thanks Willi,

I did not realise that book was in English, as I don't read German very well, I've been put off buying it.

I just looked at 2 superb examples at the Max. I also have a number of photos of originals. They all exhibit the identical features.

These two books are the only two I have handy which feature nice "textbook" originals. The two I saw last week were the same.

I'm not a sniper specialist, but the one Gene's showing is worth investigating IMO, I like the work ..

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I feel it is genuine but would never say unequivocally that it is a definite wartime variant. I was offered a tidy sum for it about 10 years ago but opted to keep it because with my luck, as soon as I sell it some pic will appear of some Volkssturm sniper or something wearing this identical badge. So, in the collection it stayed.

Of course you can! Maybes, possibility, variants, etc thats not a way to build a collection.

From the photos presented that is NOT a factory piece. And looking at it closer I can tell you that stiching is NOT period embroidery. Early post-war.
