I had a nice early wrap with similar collar dirt and wear. It took a couple of months to get it clean. Very interesting piece, superbly marked, and quite spectacular overall. I'm sure it is just as it was brought back. You can see some award loops in between the pinned on badges, which would give a better idea of what was on it originally. Many uniforms were embellished by the addition or re-arrangement of badges by the veterans. I'm sure at least a few of the badges are pinned through the wool directly.

The cloth German Cross is missing the wreath, but is probably original to the wrap with it's field gray background. A collector would have made sure it had the black panzer background, same with the breast eagle. It would be a fun tunic to examine in hand. Very interesting placement of the ribbons on the lapel. The TDB (Tank Destruction Badge on sleeve) would be interesting to see close-up photos, also the shoulder boards.

I see the white round things with the sunburst design are screw backs...I guess I would have known that were I a medal collector, very nice.

Many thanks for sharing this fine uniform.

    Richard

It was listed on EBAY, the swastikas were in open display all over the board. I was lucky enough to have caught it. They must have coughed up their tofu sashimi rolls when they saw that one after Yoga hour at EBAY central.

I had no idea it was outlawed on e-bay. I got a letter saying I was promoting hate. It certainly was not my intention.

Yes, it is a shocking wake-up for many. Two things happen, either they actually spot it between nap and meditation time and a run for tofu burgers and flag it themselves or someone reports it a offensive and typically the seller will get an email saying something to the effect of "gosh those EBAY guys are real bastards, my Grandpa lost his nose in Salerno, let me offer you a fair price of 75 dollars and 43 cents for postage" A friend of mine is Mormon and a professor at BYU, he remarks that he has more freedom of speech then most professors at "liberal" schools. EBAY is extreme on this.

I'm confused, Tracie was the seller on ebay and you managed to get it Johnny?

No, I saw it listed for the ten nanoseconds it probably was on there before EBAY HQ went into aneurysm mode. The pictures of the DKiG and the badges were the ones posted here. They must have crapped their pants.

A letter from ebay? That's outrageous! I've never heard of that before.

I am sure he meant an email, not actual letter. Very nice wrap if indeed all original'n'untouched

Yes, sorry email. Us old guys still refer to email as letters. In his case it was probably an email saying his Johnson would never function again. I have a statement from my wife this is not the case at least 3 months after the Ebay offense so no bloddy worries.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the information on here and in messages. I've been trying to find about the jacket for a couple of years and have found way more information in one day on here than in two years of searching. I had no idea the original owner could be identified much less photos of him wearing it. Absolulely amazing! Thank you all so much.

It's normally very difficult to track down a soldier based on a non-named uniform, but with yours it was pretty easy. I think Helmut is alive, too!

Who was the officer? Please post the information. I think it would be cool to see who this highly decorated guy was.

Apparently Helmut Ritgen someone thinks. Several critical items are missing that would make it his.
