The IAB and GAB (and most likely PAB) were added by the vet who brought it back. Perhaps the EKI was traded for one of these??? Speculation of course!

Would it be possible to see a close-up shot of the eagle, as well as the collar tabs - particularly the reverse of the collar where they are sewn on?

It is pretty common to see tunics used like pin-cushions by vets. No worries there.

Rob,
I'm sure Tracie can post those images, but there is no doubt this is Ritgen's wrap, since Tracie has also provided background information on how his grandfather acquired it, which jibes perfectly with Ritgen's account of how the jacket was taken (none of which was ever public knowledge).

What an amazing wrapper!

If possible is there any chance of the capture details, i.e. when/how he acquired it?

I read once of an account of the impending capture of a pz troop where he removed the skulls form his uniform to keep from being confused as SS.

Who knows here of course , but the gold removal could have even been done by the vet himself for the dk wreath and spange.

Fantastic Tunic and thread.

This proves once and for all that when a REAL item of significance is posted, this forum knows what its talking about and all real collectors DO love being a part of it..... (I hear a lot of negative sods at shows about us at the WAF).

Great thread and great interactions by all to ensure a real deal item gets the plaudits it deserves. That's one expensive piece of history.
