Many thanks to Steve for sharing his excellent photo collection and putting faces on these otherwise impersonal badges. There is a disturbing photo of a shot-up Sturmboot (with mostly dead occupants) on the Meuse in 1940 that reminds you just how dangerous this qualification could be. At any rate I was able to turn up one portrait to compliment Steve's; the reverse reads "Zum Andenken an euren Stabsfeldwebel":

This Pionier (name withheld) started his career with PB6, later transferred to PB16 for the duration.

Just got this on Saturday a nice 4" X 6" portait of a NCO Steuermann from PB41. Nice clear picture, I can even see the hand stitching on the Steuermann badge.

Interesting foto of a Pionier? Steuermann. His cap has what appears to be black waffenfarbe, and his tunic shows white waffenfarbe? with the Steuermann sleeve patch.
