Ben, here is my collection of the ultra-rare variation of original period pieces

The first four are "army" with dark green backgrounds. The background on one is actually so dark, it could have come from the MGM Panzer Division.

...and of course the two RARE AK eagles (of which I see Ben also has one - lucky dog!!) Uh, I'm pretty sure one of these was Rommel's.

I sent Rommel's son ( now almost 80 years old ) a letter and received his anwser today in the post.

He states that never uniforms of his father were used in movies. Not that I want to argue with anyone but I saw the article and asked him if the uniform ever was returned.

One to watch out for, and oldie called 'Hotel Berlin', made right at the end of the war, and is a true clunker for plot etc, but the uniforms in that are all spot on, as it is supposedly set in a Berlin hotel during the war, great original military tunics used there, but with some strange places to put war badges on them, there is the standard black SS bad guys too, don't know about those tunics, but sure is fun to check out the good stuff being worn in that one. (It was made in Hollywood I think).

No one going to mention Hogan's Heroes, and the 4 pocket tunic that Sgt Schultz wears with the reversed breast eagle ?? (and an M42 double decal helmet)....

Originally I am from Russia and I must to admit that everything showed in this movie is truth. SS troops simply annihilated everyone and everything on their way. During the war, Russian civilians were killed four times more than Army personnel, and blah blah blah.
            Anyway I like these pictures.
Mate! tell us about the great russian soldiers..... they were ten times as bad as the germans, also the other 50 years of friken communist/bolsevist rule in the eastern parts of europe!!! u never talk about when the Wehrmacht marched into the Ukrane, they greeted them as liberaters from communism...

I seem to recall that I saw a behind-the-scenes piece from the german movie Stalingrad from 1993 (great movie by the way) in which they claimed that some of the uniforms were the real deal. Anyone know if that is true?
And just for the sake of - it even though none of the uniforms are real in the other german movie Der Untergang (2004), I think it is on of the most decent attempts to be coherent in terms of uniforms and equipment I have seen. Anyway it is highly recommendable to those who haven't seen it (and of course also to those who have, but they probably know ).

Unfortunately I don't have a still of this, but I think the tunic Steve McQueen is wearing in "The Great Escape" when he steals the motorcycle is a good M-36 with original insignia. Over the years each time I watch those scenes, everything looks right on it, including the seams of the tunic, and the early white eagle and collar litzen. If you have the video, check it out.

Years? More like 2 and a half decades ago is when they cleared out 90% of thier warehouses. I use to have a german officers cap that I got from MGM. It was a US Army officers cap with very bad insignia.

Der Untergang (The Downfall) had Andrew Mollo as the consultant for uniforms. Still some of them were wrong. You see many of the general officers in their beautiful tailor made uniforms and slip on shoulder boards for one thing and Hermann Fegelein was an SS-Brigadefuhrer in the movie. In fact he was an SS-Gruppenfuhrer, so they missed on that one.

                              Horray for Russkiwood

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but the Russians have produced some good war movies both under the Soviets and under the Federation. A great movie is "The Star", about a Russian recon team. The Russian productions have way more authenticity any Hollywood film. They show Germans sleeping in Zelts, Goulash cannons, and Stiefel with hobnails! Blade and Bell sells these movies. He is usually at the SOS
