    Jan,

Your right that the guy in the second photo should have a Cornflower blue colored soutache for sanitäter, although he should be wearing an SS side cap rather then an army one. I've seen this in quite a few films SS tunic with an army cap, do they not do their research!

Also thanks for the link Raz.

      Hi all
I think everything has been covered here, I have "come and see" on DVD which has not been released that long?. Yes there are many errors in these films and not all is totally original and some is modified, the SS cap, the M43 caps, overcoats look OK, nothing wrong with the tan and water smocks with hoods. I once owned a film prop tunic that was a original M 36 with a original breast eagle had reproduction shoulder straps for infantry and artillery collar tabs with the red bars over stitched in white to look like a infantry collar tabs, and a fake Iron Cross First Class on the breast pocket.

Mind if I get in this??

Unfortunately I don't have a still of this, but I think the tunic Steve McQueen is wearing in "The Great Escape" when he steals the motorcycle is a good M-36 with original insignia. Over the years each time I watch those scenes, everything looks right on it, including the seams of the tunic, and the early white eagle and collar litzen. If you have the video, check it out.

Then again, sometimes there's nothing quite like those old movies many of us grew up watching....

                      Hi,
Possibly the ealiest firm to use real uniforms and a lot of SS camo was a polish film i think it was called'' Kannal'' or somthing like that but not to sure of title made if i remember in the late 1940's,pherhaps someone can correct me,I don't think many members especially the newer ones will have seen it i have a copy some were.

                        Come and see

Hi I watced the movie come and see a few days back and I have to say it is pure crap IMO. This is just my opinion but a lot of rewievs praise it to the skys, but I can´t see what the fuss is all about.
In my opinion it is a movie made for one reason only, PROPAGANDA. It was made durring the cold war and the communist party was in charge.....
And the uniforms and moste of the headgear looks bad to me.
Some of the sceens made me think of the old movie Hells Angels on wheels, but then again at least there were an original Luftwaffe helmet in that movie
I will agree that it shows Horro but IMO the Horro is the film itself and it is a waist of time.....Better to see a few documentary films abot the horror of war.

                        Cheers Lassi

Bet you all can think of films that used original uniforms like the reversible camouflage Parker's in the film "Where Eagles Dare" and the "eagle has landed" .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ....................
They were fake as well made in the UK for Berman and Nathen the film costume firm. Probably the only film to use all original uniforms equipment ,weapons and vehicles was The 1960s Andrew Mollo / Kevin Brownlow film It Happened Here

The camo smocks look BGS (3rd pattern) with the lining maybe removed?

                              Steve,
I've often wondered about that & was going to mention it when I saw your post to that effect. I recall a closeup when he is near the Swiss border that the correct cuff vents on the tunic can clearly be seen.

In Cross of Iron I think James Mason wore a real tunic with some alterations done. Also David Warner wore what appears to be a real tunic, but on Maximillian Schells tunic you can see the East German buttons.
I used to have an original from the TV series Combat, it was very light,no liner, almost like a light sweater, hollow aluminum buttons and sewn in green cloth straps with white cotton sewn around the edge for effect. Its color was actually a dark olive brown.

I have watched the Great Escape and noticed that tunic as well it looks darn good.
