Dear Sirs; I owned a similar jacket several years ago constructed from the soft 'polished cotton' material with the national emblem applied in the same fashion - tightly machine sewn with darker thread. I see no evidence of previous application and the line of construction thread (seemingly) sewn over the tip of the eagle's right wing to my mind is a positive indicator. Regarding placement of the national emblem itself, I checked a couple of examples upstairs and the location of the eagles in relation to the pocket plap/buttonhole is generally consistent with this example. So, in my opinion: 100% original. If there are other indicator(s) that the eagle itself is not original, I hope someone will clue me in!

Thanks Mike! I have no problem with the thread color or the sewing. Have had tunics with this thread and sewing also. But still concerned with the bird, a detail of the sewing area you mention will help. Do you have any eagles like this on tunics, blouses, or smocks; that is, not tropical, but shaped like this one?

That eagle keeps bothering me...,it's not a one looker,it's not a two looker..,I looked at it 20 times and can't accept it...,even if it was original..
I give up....,saying I still don't like the eagle.
It's sewn on very professional,that's a fact.
Very difficult jacket IMO..,you've to accept it like it is thinking it's all original or you don't accept the eagle, but you can't take it off because you'll damage the jacket...
If someone can prove the eagle right...,well,that would be fantastic, problem solved...
Jos.

Eagle aside..there are several small details shown on more recent pictures which makes me feel much more comfortable with the jacket itself..still...the eagle raises issues and concerns. I'll post some pics from what I believe to be a higher end french repro circa 2002.
Eagle..sloppy application and cutting out of base material..plus..I dont think the eagle itself is goodAttached FilesLast edited by Scott A. Hess; 04-19-2006, 11:08 PM.

Cuff closure buttons and lining material...which Im also not thrilled about...this jacket should have IMMEDIATELY gone back to the seller when I pulled it out of the box..but as often happens..I (we) so want to believe the piece is good..we talk ourselves into it..which I should have known better..live and learn.Attached Files
