I like the use of what appears to be Heer tropical tunic material for the shoulder strap loops. No sign of a previous eagle being removed.

Personaly I'd be very very careful with this tunic..there have been some near perfect examples coming out of France the last few years..same type/style of size markings...but Peek and Clopenburg marked..the material of the body of this jacket is a not like the material I've seenused in many original tunics and meyer caps.nor the same type of luft tropical used to line later war jump smocks. Certainly different types of weight/weave of cloths could be encounted..but its less standard than normally seen. Also..check out the buttons...are they glass or plastic..I mean the cuff closure and the button on the neck closure? Also..the repros dont get the neck closure hardware right..at least on the ones I've examined..however..I dont see that shown on this example. I would want to hold this in hand before saying yeah or nay..just my opinion..as I've been burned on these..and the repros get better with time..rarely worse. Likerwise..those rust stains look pretty "newish"..is there any evidence of rust on the split rings? Besides from the thread affixing the eagle..are there indicationsof different weight/colors of khaki thread used on the piece..or one single weight/shade used throughout? Lots to look at that is hard to tell from the pictures provided. I understand Willi Zahn handled a pretty perfect copy at the last SOS..I'd run it by him as well.

Hello Gene..when I bought mine..(from a forum member) in 2002, it looked right..HOWEVER..when I handled it in person...it didnt pass muster..I believe they copied the size markings and such from Monty Cheneys example in the Figoreau (spelling) softcover on Dak/tropical tunics, they have the markings for these down PAT. In 2001... the sticking point was ALSO the eagle..and how it was affixed..and the interior lining wasnt quite right..also..the neck closure hardware was dead wrong...buttons not right either..the neck closure/cuff closure. This tunic could be good..however..I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Zahn has handled the "latest" wares...and as I've indicated..Im sure an "improved" version. I hope Im wrong with this tunic..but Im leary.

Maybe the tunic needed to be tweaked a bit!

The eagle also has my concerns, the weaving looks exactly like how the Jancke eagles are made..,I hope I'm wrong.
Can mean 2 things, the whole jacket is repro or they ruined a jacket..
The jacket doesn't look too bad,the "soft" fabric is no concern, but I'm not familiar with all the types of fakes around.
It has some good things though..
                          Still,why adding a fake eagle ? ( IMO )
Or did it had the eagle from the start..

                          Jos.

Original eagles are around..IF the jacket is real and without an eagle..why #@ck the thing up with a bad eagle?...adding a repro eagle does nothing to add to the value..in fact..it would only greatly depreciate an otherwise good piece.hell..there would be those that would even shy away from a REAL jacket with a real eagle added..unless done perfectly..however.this jacket would not have reached this stage of completion absent at least from the factory an original eagle..so..any eagle replaced would surely leave evidence however slight of one being removed..Im leaning towards ground up repro..I could be wrong..but there was no response as to thetype of buttons and neck closure hardware used..nor was the neck hardware shown. Just beingoverly cautious..in a world where probably 80% of the stuff out there is repro.

                              Hi Jos,

I haven't seen any repro tropical tunics made of the "soft fabric" yet. Doesn't mean they have not started. The reproductions of Luft tropical tunics are so good that many require a hands on inspection, difficult to determine if authentic through photos alone. If this is one, it is another valid reason to STOP posting markings here!

I still do not like the eagle.

Lastly, many tropical tunics were issued without ever having eagles applied.
