After the additional photos, I still like the tunic and still do not like the eagle.

I also agree with John regarding potential signs of an earlier eagle. Replacing eagles in a near perfect manner is not a difficult task today.

Stephan, again, your photos are excellent! Please post a close up of this area.
        Merci,

Dear Sirs; I owned a similar jacket several years ago constructed from the soft 'polished cotton' material with the national emblem applied in the same fashion - tightly machine sewn with darker thread. I see no evidence of previous application and the line of construction thread (seemingly) sewn over the tip of the eagle's right wing to my mind is a positive indicator. Regarding placement of the national emblem itself, I checked a couple of examples upstairs and the location of the eagles in relation to the pocket plap/buttonhole is generally consistent with this example. So, in my opinion: 100% original. If there are other indicator(s) that the eagle itself is not original, I hope someone will clue me in!

Thanks Mike! I have no problem with the thread color or the sewing. Have had tunics with this thread and sewing also. But still concerned with the bird, a detail of the sewing area you mention will help. Do you have any eagles like this on tunics, blouses, or smocks; that is, not tropical, but shaped like this one?

              Fellows,

I admittedly should have no business (due to lack of knowledge) with this thread, but I like the piece just as is also.

Hi John, I've had a bit of a disaster in that one of the racks of uniforms collapsed while I was away but I did extract a few LW blouses to compare. Well, they all are different from the bird depicted - and for that matter, from each other. So, although I see differences, I'm not certain to which feature(s) you are referring. Help a brother out and send me an email. This stuff moves too fast for old timers like me and perhaps I could benefit from some special 'coaching'. Cheers.

That eagle keeps bothering me...,it's not a one looker,it's not a two looker..,I looked at it 20 times and can't accept it...,even if it was original..
                          I give up....,saying I still don't like the eagle.
                          It's sewn on very professional,that's a fact.
Very difficult jacket IMO..,you've to accept it like it is thinking it's all original or you don't accept the eagle, but you can't take it off because you'll damage the jacket...

If someone can prove the eagle right...,well,that would be fantastic, problem solved...

                          Jos.

Eagle aside..there are several small details shown on more recent pictures which makes me feel much more comfortable with the jacket itself..still...the eagle raises issues and concerns. I'll post some pics from what I believe to be a higher end french repro circa 2002.

Eagle..sloppy application and cutting out of base material..plus..I dont think the eagle itself is good

Cuff closure buttons and lining material...which Im also not thrilled about...this jacket should have IMMEDIATELY gone back to the seller when I pulled it out of the box..but as often happens..I (we) so want to believe the piece is good..we talk ourselves into it..which I should have known better..live and learn.
