Andy, another thing is the buttonhole ribbons. I learned that the early ones (as those that would haven been worn in 1940) are narrower than the later ones. Look at the pictures. First picture shows the ONLY ribbons I want to display on my 1940 tunics, apart from two longer ones that are in storage right now. On my EM tunics I only want to see a flower war ribbon bar or a narrow EK2 Band. Third picture shows the difference. Second picture proves that this was also the case for the War Effort cross (Kriegsverdienstkreuz).[/QUOTE]

    Thanks Lucius,
A couple of very informative posts. Do you know the width of the narrower earlier EK ribbons compared to the later war ribbons? This will be valuable information to share. The ribbon on the tunic above is 3cm.
    Regards,
    Andy

      Hello Andy,
on this picture you can see the measurements in mm.
On the left the ‘early’ ribbons: 27 mm
On the right a ‘later’ Feldspange for EK2 and a ‘later’ ribbon: 30 mm.

      greetings,

      Lucius

P.S. I’m not sure when the change was being made, always read ‘somewhere in 1940’. Perhaps the specialists over at the Iron Cross forum can tell you more...

Still learning to use the new system...
I want to add that the correct width of the early ribbons is 2,6 cm (as clearly visible from the photographs)...
Also I wanted to suggest that 'the specialists over at the Iron Cross forum could tell you more'.

          Lucius
