Beautiful SS Banner - Screened Wool - US Veteran Family Find

Since my collection is nearly gone now, thought I would show one off the highlights of my collecting life. This is the ONLY SS flag/banner I have ever found out of the woodwork. Never seen an original one before or since.

This banner came from the same US Veteran son as the banner in the thread below:
    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=699174

This screened wool banner is in real nice shape for wool. Has moth nips here and there, but nothing real bad. Since the material underneath the seam is flat, I assume ties were used to secure the banner and they were cut off flush with the edges by the Veteran. OLD FLAGS WANTED might know better what was used to secure it.

Has the squares at the top and angular stitching at the bottom you expect at the corners. Great looking bias material as well. It is unmarked. Banner measures 115 cm x 195 cm (45 x 77 inches).

    Hope you enjoy.

            Hello Jeff:
Nice to see the "real" thing - bravo !!! Made of the
correct material (selvage edge wool), in RZM spec
size and construction, missing the pole flying rope.

Thanks OLDFLAGSWANTED for the comments and photos.

I am very pleased to know it is a Lager Flag vs. a banner of course! My understanding, very few of these wool Lager flags actually survived the war.

Below is another link to other flags/banners that came from the same Veteran family. If you read the post, I mentioned a couple items they held onto, it was this flag, that large banner and a helmet I have not yet gotten.

                Jeff:
Your SS Lager (OFW type 2) flag is only the 2nd
"real" example I've ever seen, so indeed rare.
Also nice to see your t=645146 RDF with a rare
"AO Gau" marking and snap hooks too, although
a larger size clip than used on the DE & SS-Lager.

                OFW
(below) As cited thread "AO Gau XII" on a RDF.

(below-2/3) OFW SS flag types, and where Lager types 1 or 2 were flown.

I have seen many ss flags and banners in advanced collections and dealers websites, as a matter of fact I know of at least two available at this very moment on very respectable dealers sites BUT I have never believed in any of them. Never. Absolutely true. And this the very first time I am believing in what I see here. Original. First in many years of collecting. Wow! That's a true rarity for sure

Excellent original Lager flag Jeff, congrats for another great woodwork find by you. This item would be the center piece for just about any collection. Great condition and display size. Killer!

Thanks gentlemen for the kind comments and PM's of encouragement.

When I saw it come out of bag the first time, my heart skipped a beat. I had to wait a good while before I could purchase. Since I couldn't un-see the flag, so it was quite tormenting. Years seemed like, well years.

                            Thanks Bob, Harry and HAF.

By request, here are couple close-ups of the seams and stitching.

Thanks also for all the PM's. Yes, at some point I will sell the flag, but not until I know fair collector value.

This thread SS Lager Flag is an OFW type 2, and
based on super rarity (2nd I've ever seen) it is
well worth IMO ten thousand USD plus, even
with the snap hook and fly rope missing.
