            Great 98K

Do you know what was used for the white cammo?

I am asking because i have a barn found 98K (dou44) and the stock is not
very nice, so i think i would be a nice idea to make a white cammo stock ...

              no

NO> I was not there in WW2.. I would assume white wash or some other type of white paint... BILL

                Bill,

I have been amazed at the firearms you have posted here. They are fantastic!
This one I just had to look at again and again...

It looks as if there is no paint on the metal parts. Do you think the Germans removed the stock before painting, or does it have any paint on the metal and just didn't show in the photos? I am just curious as to how it was done.

Amazing rifle and another stunning contribution to the firearms forum on your part. Thanks for sharing.

                  stock

I have taken it apart and it looks like the stock and handguard was removed then painted, but not removing the butt plate.. There is some small areas of paint on the metal, more that likely from where it was still wet when reasembled..BILL

                          Bill,

it's a good job i'm sitting down when i browse here....

A fellow forum member has an MP44 that has the visible signs of whitewash, but i have never seen anything like this.

                          Remarkable piece!

                          Patrick.

                            Hi Bill,

Very interesting rifle. A dealer friend of mine, in his early collecting days, bought a P.08 from the vet that had been white washed. Since he had never seen that done before, he removed the white wash only to find out later that it was like that when brought back from Europe and was captured during the Battle of the Bulge.

                            Regards, Leon

Thanks Bill! There are weapons, and then there are weapons that transend being mere firearms. THIS is one of those; for me it is in the realm of art and an important part of history. As Bill well knows, I drool every time I see this incredible piece. And guys, you ain't seen nothing yet.....
