I voted for the PPSh-41 as it was the best of the choices given. But whould have to say that the PPS-43 would have to be the best SMG to come out of WWII. I base this on the fact that it is the most copied design of the war, and coping is the most sincere form of flattery.

Hi Kiwicollector, the PPS is a beautiful peice of design. I was very impressed with it and considering the history of the gun and the circumstances of it's initial design and construction in the Siege of Leningrad, I think that it makes it a special weapon.
I have a Chinese made copy of it, the Type 54. We use these for Battle re-enactment here in the UK. We have had them converted to 9mm blank firing.

Hail to the PPS 43
Adrian--I think you mean yours is a copy of the PPS 43. I voted for the Beretta due to the choices listed but I agree that the 43 was definitely the best sub gun...a refined 41.
I didn't know the Chicoms had a version. Is there a semi auto version available?

The PPS 43 is really a completely different gun to the PPSh41. The thing which really suprised me is the mags are not interchangable
I think this is the guns biggest fault.

Here's a picture of my Russian 1945 dated PPS-43:
As you can see it's seen better days and is missing the bolt, but I'll get that fixed (one day). Can you get parts for these in the UK?

Hi Kiwicollector, sadly parts for these are not obtainable in the UK, unless you are a Section 5 firearms dealer.

I have to say ...have you ever handled a PPS43 and shot one.They are rubbish !. Nowhere near as contrallable nor reliable as the PPSh41. A Soviet made PPS is quite a rare bird
In Russia it is not so rare, we still have some sources of this sub-machine guns. So in military shops you can get deactivated gun by resonable prices in about 200$

I is a problem. It is very difficult to find german weapons in Russia. I would like to have in my collection MP-38/40 and Mauser 98K but all deactiveted items which I have seen were in ugly condition (ground dug) I heared only that IZMASH start make deactivation of Mauser 98K on the next week I want check this information. It is about german weapon, but with Russian and with some another deactiveted weapon we haven't any problems.Originally posted by bnz. 42

Sergey, can you get parts for them?
I'm looking for a new bolt for my PPS-43 and so far have only found them in the US where it's too hard to get export permits (most American sellers can't be bothered exporting).

I think it will be difficult to buy any part of PPS. I think in this case it will be easier to buy whole deactivated sub-machine gun, but how I told it is price will be not high in about 200$ so you can get every part of this item.Originally posted by kiwicollectorComment

Having owned at least one of all of them, I think the papsha is the best. I don't own one anymore because it was butt ugly. I still have two Thompsons and two MP40's and a STEN(a piece of crap by the way!) but if I were using it for combat give me the PPsh41 Reliable, accurate, 71 round drum!!, and you can use it as a club in hand to hand combat, what more could you ask for? The Germans had a saying about them as well "if you get hit by one, you will be hit by ten".
