This is a Beretta 1918/30 semiautomatic carabine for the Milizia Forestale (before and during WW2) and Corpo Forestale dello Stato (after WW2).

One of the problems with Italian pre 45 small arms nomenclature is that the same items were often refered to by various names in different period texts and sources. In addition, the extremely large number of modifications of various weapons makes it difficult. For example, trying to catalogue the numerious modifications done to the various models of the Carcano weapons system is indeed a study in it's own right.
There also doesn't seem to be a wealth of in depth reliable information on these weapons in English.

Bydand,
Any chance of posting these directly? You have to be a member of the board evidently to see pics, and since I do not speak Italian I'm not sure about signing up for the board.

Compared with the preceding Mod. 1918, of which it is a variant, this arm presents some modifications to the firing system and to the rear sight.
It was adopted by some Police units and by the Italian Forestry Service."
The MAB 38 was the first italian SMG in 9mm like 9Para, the more powerful 9M38, that has 20% more powder.
Many english-speaking writers confuse the three 9mm, that have similar size.
