I do not agree that this is a WWI type fighting knife. I think this is a personalized WWII fighting knife. And it even may be in my collection, coming from where the LAH saw the end of the war...

This ss soldier with cigarette, he's name: HEINZ MAEGER and he was served in 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler".

Sorry, but it's NOT Heinz Maeger. It is an often perpetuated myth started by someone who compared this photo with video footage of an elderly Maeger in a BBC documentary. However, Maeger did not participate in the Bulge. He got wounded in late 1943 and after that he served in a medical unit (letter from Heinz Maeger to Mike Smeets from 2003)
