The major difference is the slide release is a lot easier to use. Other than that the differences are mainly cosmetic. Mine was made in 1942 and shoots like a dream

I've never seen one before, just looked it up. I like the slide release, will it fit a M1911?

I know Colt numbered their frames and slides with matching serial numbers from about 710,000 to I think around 1,140,000 with this practice ending sometime during 1943. I was just curious if yours had a matching serial numbered slide. Regardless another GEM !

Hi Steve,

I have one that is also all original with serial number 773xxx.

I just checked it and the serial number is only on the frame.
