        !943 Colt

        Bill,

Your killing me with the quality of your 1911.A1's. I can't see your serial number. I know Colt numbered their frames and slides with matching serial numbers from about 710,000 to I think around 1,140,000 with this practice ending sometime during 1943. I was just curious if yours had a matching serial numbered slide. Regardless another GEM !

Very cool Bill! I especially like the box of original ammo, never seen one before.

            Colt 1911A1

Super nice one Bill. I'll post some photos of the one I picked up several years ago. Almost turned it down because of the different color caused by the heat-treating on the last inch and a half of the slide. At the time I thought that color change was an anomaly and was a defect or someone had messed with it. Little did I know it helps authenticate the piece. Congrats on yours Tomt

              Colts

Here's a trio of Colts that I have to include a 1943 Colt A1. I'm not much of a firearms guy and really only collect German buckles, but I will keep a 1911/1911.A1 if I find one. They are great pistols.

Bill, my Dad is in agreement with you and would not carry anything else except as a backup. Here is the one here carried for many years with some of his AB stuff. I don't think there is a better one but I have used others that are acceptable. The red plexiglass grips were made in Southern France to match the artillery patches. The grips have darkened over the years and 40 years ago were a brighter red.

                    Copdoc.
Very nice ABN pieces with your .45 ACP. Interesting grips as well.

                    Bill.
I notice the "plain brown wrapper" that yours is displayed on.
Is that something they where issued inside of ????
I do like learning of the details........
                    Thanks.

Thanks I just talked to my Dad. I told him Bill had one new in the box. He said his was new before he took it to hell and back. He did have an artillery Luger in the box he removed from a factory or warehouse. He sold it to a salior that wanted a souvenir for $250. (ten times what he said it was worth at the time even with the stock). There is little to no finish left on the 45 now but it still shoots. I asked him about the holster mfg. He thinks it's marked Sears 1943.

Amen Bill. For 16 years I carried a 1911a1 on duty in the CG. Hated the change over to the Beretta. For 30 years I have own a MkIV series 70 1911a1 and after owning 20+ handguns I stil rely on my MKIV to get me out of trouble.
