Upper handguard's internal numbering font appears the same as the metal's......Recoil lug and bayonet lug are also BLM WaA'd(214)....Thanks Bill....Bodes

btw....Is it at all possible that the buttstock was an armourer's replacement? That perhaps might explain the serial # font discrepancy....

Bodes, It could have very well been a armour's replacement stock... I do not have any byf 98ks that have the byf on the stock in the fashon as the duv one..So maybe it is a armour's replacement stock..The numbering on the stock measures out to be 5mm...BILL

                Bill,

Definately not factory duv of the period and not the font and size of depot reworks I own or have recorded. Appears to be SAE numbering font and size in the bottom of the stock which does not match the handguard characters. These characters should match exactly as they should have been struck with the same die set. In a period rework, it would be highly unusual for a stock to be replaced except as a set (stk and handguard). Original buttplate and bayo lug may or may not be reused. Seen correct specimens both ways. Most importantly, if a correct period rework there would be inspection proofing in the stock or buttplate which would identify the facility (ie. Kru, Su, Hza, etc.). A rather problematic condition since not a factory duv and not a depot rework.
