edit, buttplate's bering marked is quite common.

Patrick, The early flat butt plate are numbered on most rifles, but not as common on cupped butt plates..OF the many 98ks, which you saw a lot of them last winter only a few early ones with cupped butt plates have the dated and numbered cupped butt plate, to the rifle....BILL
