GJ piping varies by maker, and the color even varies by the same maker. They did not dye their own fabric--they bought from different suppliers.
    Age also plays a role.

These are all 100% original GJ visors--note that the colors vary:

Anyway, IMHO, the Otto Dittmann is a GJ cap.

                            Glad it worked out.

Shown before, but this is proof positive that insignia was moved wartime to accommodate Traditions badges:

Great photo. This poor zero had no clue that he had just destroyed the respectability and resale value of his cap into perpetuity.

                              1) We know that it happened. Probably more often than we think.

                              2) We know that the green farbes were used interchangeably by the green farbe-wearing masses. Probably more often than we think.

                              3) We know that the GJ units had admin personnel just like all other units. So whether they transferred in during the war, wearing their admin-piped caps, or were there from the start, they were authorized to wear the edelweiss.

                              4) We know that other branches such as Artillery and even Panzer units that were attached to GJ units wore the edelweiss, either officially or unofficially.

                              5) We know, from the law of averages, that the subject cap was probably embellished post-war. But it is a very nice cap, and all components appear to be original, so it is what it is. It may not command the value of a "textbook" piece, but it is still very collectable IMO.

I have contacted helmut Weitze. and they say it could easily be GJ. but the color looks like an Admin. but as they say was used at some point the same color. and manufacturing was unusual.
