    Chris,

Most others probably won't respond to your thread since you are a leper. As a fellow leper I will respond, as I am interested no matter who is posting.

What follows are some that I believe are fakes. I would not swear to it though, but they share similar characteristics.

        3. Jim don't worry, you are not considered a leper.

          Amazing...no one is interested.

          Chris...have you checked your breath?

Thank you Richard, John and Jim for your contributions,

I think that this is a puzzle worth solving.

Lets build on what we know so far, a little more. There are in fact two versions of the
"- the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM "

Pictured below, is a KM Donald-duck cap which appeared on the "Collectors Guild" website. Here we see the "- the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font " which we will call "version 1"

If you look at post number 14 you will see this original "- the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font (version 1)"

Pictured below in this post, is a LW sidecap with Luftshutz badge which also appeared on the "Collectors Guild" website. Here again, we see "- the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM " but there are differences with the version shown in post number 20 . We will call this one "version 2"

If you look at post number 3 you will see this original "- the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font (version 2)"

                Thus we now have the following original, pre-May 1945 stamps identified;

                - the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font (version 1) : see post numbers 14 & 20
                - the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font (version 2) : see post numbers 3 & 21
                - the classic Willy Sprengfeil MM with "small date" font (version 1) : see post numbers 5 & 7
                - the lesser known Willy Sprengfeil MM with "large date" font : see post numbers 4, 8, 9 & 10
                - the lesser known Willy Sprengfeil MM with "small date" font : see post numbers 6, 7 & 8

The question is, are there more ??? ( Keep in mind that Willy Sprengfeil were licencing production and increasingly using sub-contracting )

Lets see what follows on this thread,

The differences in " Willy Sprengfeil " stamps is fascinating.

Here is the absolute "classic" version with "large date font" from a black panzer sidecap just recently shown here on WAF. I love the stamp and the cap it is on

Now compare the subtle differences with the two stamps which follow,

This time an example from a KM foul weather cap.

This also looks to be the "classic" version with "large date font" but there are differences when compared with the stamp shown in post number 23. Look at the alignment of the letters eg the "L" or "Y" on the top line with the "R" or "E" below in the second line ( or "R" on the second line with the "M" on the third line ). Also look at the different shapes of the of the "S"

The more one looks, the more differences one sees. Clearly proving that Willy Sprengfeil was using more than one stamp before May 1945, and a range of stamps. Each with slight differences between them,

Here is the size stamp from the KM foul weather cap MM shown in post number 24. Another point of several differences worth noting in Willy Sprengfeil caps,

Now please have a look at this "Willy Sprengfeil" stamp in another KM foul weather cap.

Talk about differences in MM stamp from the same maker, in the same type of cap.

This one, is again the "classic" version with "large date font" but it is quite different in many subtle ways from the one shown in post number 23. It does however, look to be the same as the version that is shown in post number 24. Why is this one white and the one in post 24 black ??? Also has this one been applied as a stamp or a stencil ???

1/ Another interesting example of the "stencil application of a Willy Sprengfeil MM stamp in a KM foul weather cap. Talk about blurry yet 101% original,
