The hat was camp made or camp repaired using two different types of striped cloth. The only marking on it is the size number, which is 59. Hope it helps.

Should perhaps leave well enough alone but felt like adding something. Found a little bit surprising that the addition of KL items causes such uproar in the collecting community. I think we all collect for various reason. When you collect items with swastikas on them you have to have your reason I think. For me, the Holocaust was one of the single most important reasons for World War II. It sets it apart for from many wars before and after as a necessary war. Also with Holocaust denial growing in the world I feel myself wanting to be able to conserve parts of this history as well. Is it a good and sensible approach? Who knows. All I know is that I have some KL related items in my collection (all paper so far) and I never look at them out of dark bloodlust. But rather with a sense of utter respect and awe for those that went through this, some even coming out the other side. Please don't look at all collectors of KL items in a bad light. Even some of my Jewish friends know about my collection and these items and even they respect my approach to it and the historical nature of what is contained therein.

Wrong. You probably watch too much Hollywood movies, killing jews was not "one of the single most important reasons for World War II". The reason for the WW2 was to conquer and rule the world. Holocaust was just a part of it. Nazies killed 5 times more Russians than Jews, and nobody thinks today that killing Russians was "one of the single most important reasons for World War II".

Dear Achtung. Another typical reply and why I rarely post here. If you read my response carefully you would notice I am talking about the necessity for the war and I only mention Jewish when talking about my friends. I do know a bit more about the history you give me credit for. I happen to know the reasons the war started and that there were other nations also killed, even during the Holocaust. But if I find some sense in over 50 million people dying in some getting saved and an entire nation ending up not being exterminated, sorry that it offends you so greatly.

And IMO it is very "untypical" to collect and keep at home KL related items. I do collect SS items including from Totenkopf but when I see KZ items in museums I start to feel really creepy, almost sick same as if it was torture devices.

You feeling about it is personal and fair enough. But to project that onto other collectors and 'judge' them for it is perhaps not. Remember that your Totenkopf item WAS the torture device, in a manner of speaking. As there are people collecting KZ related items for the wrong and right reasons, so are there people who collect all Nazi related items for the wrong and right reasons.

As an addition and side note to my previous expressed opinion, is this part of your remark of course very true in itself.
