P+O ´s business was not the making of caps but rather a "laundry" or

The Hallesches Adreßbuch mit Umgebung 1941 also lists them as a Putzgeschäft. I suspect any of the caps by that maker are bogus. The faker may have gotten a hold of some original laundry tags and put them in the caps.

"putz" does not mean "cleaning" or "laundry" at all in this context.
It comes from "herausputzen", meaning to dress up nicely.

Damenputz is an old german expression for a hat- and cap maker for women

In 1941, Petzscke & Oelkers is listed as such a "Damenputz" business.

Hi Don,

I have not said that they were making military caps.
What I said is that they were not a laundry, not cleaning business but cap-makers for women...most probably sold in their own shop. This rules out your statement in post#18 about laundry tags and shows at least that they were involved in business around this topic.
Also the tag shown in the hats above do not have a relation to women caps.

but putzmacherin = milliner. It is therefore strange that they were in the business of military caps, but not impossible (although I personally do not like the headdresses of this thread)
