The manufacture's logo is embossed in the SB and also in the sweat shield but faded and can clearly be seen at an appropiate angle though.

Like Francisco, I have this early manufactured Erel Panzer visor with newspaper from Tuesday, 1 December 1936.

newspaper dates

I was hoping those Voss str. visors were dated. At least we know those can date no later than 1937.

Those newspapers can help date a hat--you would have to believe that the officer would try to "re-fit" his lid shortly after purchase.

Guys, I know there are more of these out there, let's see em!

I thought there would be more responses here as well.

I was always skeptical of those newspaper dates. You never know when that was added. I wouldn't use them for your log - I think it invalidates your data set.

Well, looks like it is up to us to do the legwork.

Here is another Vosstr. cap from the legendary Bob L collection from the land down undah.

Characteristic of these early Erels, it has the smaller eagle (but is not a down-tail).

As this hat was made in 1937, it was prior to the vented system.
Note that these early ones also used genuine silber bullion in the cockade:

Unfortunately, it appears that all of these Vosstr Erels are undated.
What is also characteristic of them is that they all have the 1/2-foldover & 1/2 sewn sweatbands. The Erel system had not been invented yet (and I have yet to see one on a Vosstr Erel).

We know that the VVDdLW was moved to accomodate the new Reichskanzlei some time in late 1937 (at the latest). Given that this one has the uptail eagle, we can state that the hat was made sometime between April 1937-December 1937.

(Also note that the visor underside is not green, nor is it crosshatched.)
