Please post your DATED Erel Visors

I get a lot of questions about Erel timelines that I cannot answer (ie, when did Erel stop using foil in their logos; when did they start using the vented cockade; when did they switch to Heer-style schirms on their LW caps, etc), and what defines early war/mid-war/late war. While I have rough approximations, I have never sat down and catalogued the dates, so I need your help.

To try and get a handle on this, if you own a date-stamped Erel visor (I assume almost all will be LW), can you please post a pic of the stamp, and the interior and let us know if it is vented?

    Thanks in advance.

Jos, thanks for posting yours. I would have expected yours to be from the Autumn of '44, due to the Heer style visor, the dull silver piping, and the metal insignia. Just another example of how difficult it is to date a cap on looks alone.

Nick, this is JG 51's vented Erel Extra. This one is from the Puttkammer str. address, and is the earliest-dated vented cockade I have seen--May 16, 1938. (I have never seen a vented Vosstr address--they always seem to have the 1/2 foldover/1/2-sewn sweatbands).

Here is member "pieand's" LW visor dated November of 1944. No foil, and it appears to be devoid of an Erel stamping. However, the visor is the typical LW style, and the piping the bright silver. This one does have the heavy trikot wool so common to late-war Erels:

SM - Here's a LW Privat I missed out on a long time ago, but I happen to still have pics that show what you're looking for. It's vented, and the date is April 1940 (looks like 14 APR 1940).

I've got two LW Erel officer visors myself, but I'll have to take a couple additional photos, which I can do either tomorrow or Friday. One is '41, I think. The other doesn't have a date, but it can at least be placed before the cutoff of the address change, as it's the earlier location. Both are non-vented.

                Hope that helps!

                J-

Here is mine, dated October of 1939. These earlier ones seemed to lack the name-tag slot, and had a trimmed and sewn edge to the lining:

Just playing catch up this morning, so I'll get these additional photos posted for you today.

                    Best,

Here's an Erel Extra. No date on the inside, but you can see from the liner it's the earlier address. No vented cockade.

Here's an Erel Privat. This is stamped 23 APR 1940, and has the internal hardware for the vented cockade, but no vented cockade.

                        Hope that helps!

                        Best regards,
