Showed this photo before , so I will show it again.
Vet's sisters pickup circa 1982 unfortunately I did not save one for myself. Sorry about that now. ( scan off a poloroid)
Two types: Maker and rbn marked, screened and grommet vented and box sewn and tucked insignia. They all had the suede side out on the black hatched chinstraps.
They were mint as the hats were stored in a suitcase in the attic and the rest of the stuff in a garage.
ps. The floor is not my house.Attached Files

Does anyone know when insignia was first machine sewn onto Meyers? Earliest hats have hand sewn insignia and later hats machine sewn. Most of the hats worn in Africa exhibit hand sewn insignia.
I also believe Meyer caps were first introduced in '42, and no longer made after '43.

Am still learning Larry, so just who is this professor you refer to?
Agree with your observations. But final model Heer tropical tunics were produced until the end of the war (without tropical insignia) so perhaps some Luftwaffe tropical clothing was produced later than 43, though we have not yet seen any.
Most 43 dated Meyers in collections are unissued, seems the earlier hats are the ones which exhibit wear. Are there any Meyers in collections out there with machine sewn insignia which have definite wear?Esse Quam Videri
