      Like this?

Never seen or handled one myself but I'm assuming they used a thinner HB because it was meant to go over the Pz wrap?

I was only aware of these flak suits after studying photos of the 5th SS Pz Division "Wiking". Those guys had a lot of interesting uniforms and kit. I just wish I could have gotten hold of Renz' leather jacket!

So I've spent most of my Christmas free time researching SS Trap M43 caps and found a lot of interesting things. But it seems only a few of us have any interest in research by the very poor response to this thread despite 83,938 views!!

So I'll keep my findings and conclusions to myself and those friends who have helped me along the way.

I'll just say that my opinion of SS Trap caps has changed dramatically over the last few weeks and it has become very apparent that collectors that "entertain doubts" have obviously a very narrow viewpoint. Can't say that I blame them though. It takes a lot of time and energy to look through period photos and documents etc to get to the facts. Much easier to collect what you're comfortable with i.e. what the GI's bought or sent home. Everything else is suspect because being out of your comfort zone is not a nice place to be.

No doubt I'll be shot down for these comments with some childish responses such as " well, if you like them so much, why don't you buy all the non "textbook" Dachau GI acquired caps then Ben?" That's the typical response from someone who has not done any research and has run out of ideas.

Not sure whether that was a lecture or a sermon. Personally I am interested to hear the opinions of various collectors, even when those opinions are contrary to my own. Of course one can weigh the credence of contributors as they see fit.

I'm obviously doing a terrible job with my posts at the moment because I seem to be rubbing people up the wrong way which was not my intention.

So I'm taking a break from these "sensitive" subjects for awhile.

                    SS M-43 Caps

                    Fascinating thread!
One thing I haven't seen mentioned.......
On these later SS M-43s with the trap insignia........
How are the metal pebbled buttons marked?
                    Can anyone provide some insight?
                    SS- marked?
                    Typical button markings?
                    Unmarked?

The insignia looks as though it might be original.

Thanks for your input Bryon but the trap is not the element I'm interested in.

I'm actually far more interested in the size stamp on the lining.
