Will post some comparative shots with an HBT lined example shortly.

But what is interesting with the panzer example in post number 347, is the lining material. I have found a match with a field grey example made of Italian gabardine type material on page 3 in the " Cloth Headgear for sale " section on Mike Davis,s " Virtual Grenadier " site. The example shown on Mikes site has been period up-graded to an officer rank and is marked "H43". If one looks carefully, one can see a simular texture & color of the tan cloth (post number 348) which the lining is made of and the almost exact same font to the size "58" numbers in both caps. Is the font in the stamps different or is it the speed with which they have been stamped ? I was wondering if they are made by the same maker but they are probably not. There is are differences in the button hole stitching, size/ shape of the flap and the stiching to the top of the flap.

The field grey example in post number 348, has an artifical satin or rayon type lining with a glossy sheen which is not as apparent in the image 350 posted as it is when you hold the cap in hand.

      More soon as time permits,

      Chris

Inside shot of the SS panzer in post 347. The cloth could have more of a "drill" effect to the cloth than the one on Mike's site ???

The cap pictured below has just appeared on WAF and some are asking if it is good or bad ???

Given what has been discussed on this thread, where does this model fit into the bigger picture of the evolution of the SS M43 cap ?

We have the earlier configuration i.e. skull on front with eagle on side, combined with a later HBT lining. The eagle and skull although seperates appear to be a later type (the photos are not large however ???).

Any thoughts on this one would be welcomed,

              Chris
