Please look very hard and ALL the characteristics of the lining. Period linings are very easy to determine. To the best of my knowledge no one has ever been able to duplicate the texture, weave, sheen and color of a “real” period lining. In fact not even close.

IMO a great cap and very rare/nice variation. The fabric appears to be captured Dutch officer wool cloth....it may have in fact been made in Holland even with that logo.

The diamond is a known and accepted variation. Despite much opinion to the contrary crushers and cello shields did not mix well! Yes they can often found but I have noticed that most SS crushers did not have them installed and the same is true for a lot of Heer crushers. The shield in this cap was a "work around" that can be found in some SS and Heer crushers.

Textbook is always interesting. Which textbook are you using, the 101 freshman edition or the phd level?

If I had the money it would scream right into my hands. Ben, if you are looking for a trade send me an email tonight. I am sure I have something you might be interested in.

To be honest Nick, a week ago I would have been interested in a trade. As of last Friday though, the crunch has finaly hit home here with my company freezing pay, cutting hours and with redundances on the way soon. I'm still kind of in shock, last year was the busiest year at work I've ever known. Same for thousands of people though I guess so I shouldn't complain. Got to look on the bright side, I'll have a lot more time to hunt for these gems!

Ben no one has felt the crunch like us bankers. In fact I let go of some stuff this year I said I would never sell. So I am all trades these days.

This is a very interesting thread and I respect the honesty with what Ben and Nick have shared with us all here. The impact of "the melt down" is starting to bite for sure.

I have no issues with this "crusher" and it gets "Phild" thunbs up then that is good enough in my book because he has handled a few of these in his time.

My issue with this is also an economic one, the New Zealand dollar has gone to crap again against other currencies in the world. Less than a year ago at US$2500 this crusher would have cost me NZ$3000 to buy but today it would cost me NZ$5200 to buy.

At NZ$3000 count me in and I would take it but at NZ$5200 the price has just got too high and sadly I will pass.

Sorry Ben. nice cap and for some unknown reason I can not explain the Infantry "Crushers" are always my favorites.

The reality of the economic times we are now all living with,

                Chris

I like the way the cap comes together at the front seam

I like the way the pleats are folded

I like the way that the eagle looks like it is actually "part" of the cap

it does look a little odd with the carmelization, but I like it.

It's funny how you find things relevant to old threads when you're looking for something completely. I found this diamond whilst reseacrhing into SS VA stamps! A very similar material as the one used in the Heer crusher.

Sorry if I'm boring everyone but it's my way of saving information in a place where it won't get lost in the years to come.

In other circumstances I would already have concluded a trade deal for this cap with Ben Vk.. JMHO Billbert
