Chris, I did pay $2500, EXCLUDING SHIPPING AND COSTS. The cap was offered directly to me in person, via email. It was not on the e-stand. Jacques

Well I am in a funny way trying to do my bit here if for no other reason by just keeping it alive and in the public (forum) eye
but I do believe that there are some real Carl Halfar Panzer M43's but as I have stated I am not convinced that yours is one of them.
The person who could and needs to explain more is Scott ,

Just had a wee look at Gerard's site which proves the old adage "no publicity is bad publicity", might get tempted to have a spend too. Certainly some nice items there for sure, provided he will still talk to me of course.
I see on his site that he has a Carl Halfar Org. of Todt officer's M43 so I just had to have a good look at that. Now there are a couple of differences to my one which I have listed below and this just goes to show how some variation from the same manufacturer can occur depending on when in the time period up to May 1945 the cap was made. The differences I note are;
1/ the cloth: mine is coarse woven wool but Gerard's is "trikot" twill wool.
2/ the lining: mine is looser weave satin but Gerard's is diagonal cotton.
3/ the sweat band: mine is a leather one on the forehead area only but Gerard's is a full leather going all the way around the circumference of the cap.
4/ the buttons: mine are composite material but Gerard's are silver coated metal
5/ the piping: mine is silver wire but Gerard's is "white celleon"
Now I have no doubt about either of these caps being the real deal what so ever but this does show some of production differences that one can encounter. I must add however that both caps certainly seem to be the same cut, style and sewing pattern allowing of course for the difference in sizes, machinists and the fact that I have not had a hands on of Gerard's cap.
This is why I have some hesitation in just dismissing totally the cap which started this thread but I repeat again that I feel that there may in fact be difference in cut, style and sewing with that one which are real reasons for concern,
Chris

My statement below is a generalisation of purchase options.
What I will say is when you spend $2500 with a private individual (against spending it with a dealer) you can take a high speed ride with the seat of your pants extremely close to the road surface, when it comes to disputes.
Dealer's offer published returns policies that give the seller a chance to return an item with refund, which protects the buyer's cash.
One thing that this situation may bring is that buyers may think twice about buying from private individual's if returns are refused.
Now, dealers may not always have what a buyer wants, but they certainly have returns processes, that offer a refund if you don't like what you have bought.
In Jacques case, he would have bought this item after only seeing it in picture form, from an email, not after a hands on inspection.
In the UK in cases where you have not actually personally handled an item before purchase (this is related to online buys), the seller has to give an inspection period which is covered in the UK sales of goods act 1979. If during this inspection period you are not happy, you can return for full refund.
This is why MCB offer a 30 day refund policy on online sales, it is longer than our sales of goods act states, yet we believe our customers are more important than trousering their cash.
I hope that this gets sorted out amicably.
best regards
J T

Since Scott never bothered to clarify his position or belief regarding the originality of the cap, here is his advise when I asked him what could be done regarding the cap based on the very negative comments regarding it and I quote:\
"So...what do I suggest you do about the M43? I suggest you try accommodate those opinions for what they are worth to you and decide if you are satisfied with the cap or not. Personally, I think you should be satisfied with the cap, as in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with it.
If you find that those opinions have soured you on your cap, then you can keep it and with it the attendant doubt those opinions have shaped for you, or you can try sell it for what you think it is and probably recover all or some portion of your investment."
The point being that it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that this cap is a fake. Jacques
