Cap spring? If we are talking about the same thing, we called it in the US military a grommet.
A grommet was a piece of round metal with a sliding tab that made the the top of the visor circular.
A grommet was also immediately removed when commissioned so that the 21 year old newbie thought he looked salty, fooling nobody. So it then looked like a crusher cap since the grommet was no longer in the visor, or if left in just in case an inspection was coming around, the ends were slid together and clamped into place so as to have no function at all.

Saucer Cap,,, AKA "Teller form."
I guess this would be more alluded to some of us that had worn them at one as a term related to the equivelent US headgear, but still a visor cap none the less.
Not to get out of focus but wonder about some of the colorful the sidecap terms,,,,"piss cutter", "c*nt-cap",etc!
