I agree with your post that my hat was worn with the 'traditional' uniform of members of Stosstrupp Hitler. Bob Coleman's hat, in post 1, looks like the actual Hitlermutze worn in the Kampfzeit era.

In regard to the 1927 National Emblem, did they only come with a black painted swastika?

Mr. Hritz: Thank you for sharing the Hermann Fobke and Robert Wagner uniform grouping with us. It's truly outstanding.

To the best of my knowledge, that is the only way the 1927 national emblem was produced. Today's reproduction of this insignia usually lack this characteristic.

                Mr. Coleman:

I've seen copies of ORGANISATIONBUCH DER NSDAP from 1937, 1938 and 1943. What year was this book first published? Was there enough change in SA uniforms/headgear that having a copy from 1937 and 1943 would beneficial for a collector?

The insignia for the uniform whanged totally in 1939. Copies of both book would be of assistance. I would also recommend "Cloth Insignia of the N S D A P and the S A" by John Angolia and "the S A", by Jill Halcomb. The Angolia book can be found on a regular basis on Ebay. The Halcomb book is more difficult to find.

Here, for those interested, is a picture of Fiehler and other members of the Stosstrupp wearing the cap that Bob posted. The date is the 9th of November, 1936 and it is the occasion of the annual march to the Buergerbrauekellar.

Early Special Order Kepis Such As This One Often Have A Liner, A Feature Not Found In The Later R Z M Pattern Kepi. Note The Prongs Through The Lining From The 1937 Pattern Eagle. However, Also Note There Are No Holes From The Previous 1927 Pattern Eagle. Evidently, The Owner Of This Kepi Did Not Care If The Prongs Went Through The Lining Or Not When he replaced The Insignia.
