Even though N S K K headgear isn't my area of interest, this is an interesting thread. You have some very nice pieces in your collection Mr. Coleman and I hope you will share more of them with us.

The N S K K was a subordinate organization within the S A until the Day of the Long Knives. Following this event, the organization gained greater independence. Finally, it became a seperateentity absorbing all of the Motor S A units. This kepi, circa 1933, demonstrates the transitional form of their headwear. The S A kepi was worn by officers with the S A Gruppe color from their area. We see a mixture of the early political eagle and a metal N S K K eagles being worn. This kepi has a dark blue top, which could indicate either Gruppe Hansa or Hesse. The silver or gold button has been replaced with a NSKK button. The double twisted silver piping indicates the rank of Sturmbannfuhrer and above. Position tresse was added at a later date. The kepi is private purchase. However, wear has worn away some of the lettering of the manufacturer. The owner has also written his name in the top in what is now faded ink. The kepi is the lagermutze style, which is soft and equivilent to a military "crusher." This is an interesting transitional cap which likely was worn for a short time until the inception of the final design kepi.Attached Files
