This is one really great thread from which one can really learn. Sorry I cannot add anything materially. I was just flabbergasted at seeing David's steel Werkschar, but of course the SA buckle should also never have been produced in steel. Chapeau to you, David, for showing these beauties!

      Regards, Karl

here is another Berg & Nolte buckle that I have just picked up at the MAX show..it is solid nickel and has the RZM 36 in the normal makers mark spot, and has a side stamping marked RZM M4/30...note the not the brass footed catch not typical to this maker. Chad

A super addition to the thread Chad !

A lovely HJ buckle and how pleasant to see the double stampings.

The inner side wall stamping as a great bonus.

How right you are though in connection with your comments toward the wide bridge catch. It does not seem the typical Berg und Nolte type, although perhaps reasonably similar.

Why is it that on certain HJ's, we see the wide bridge catch with a certain "lean", as though it has been forced ? I cannot recall this characteristic on any other buckle with a similar catch.

Excellent buckle though and many thanks for posting.

                  Regards,

                  David

It would be interesting and when there is an opportune moment, to have a squint at your "leaning catches". I wonder if there is a common construction ? The possibility of course that these catches were bought in from an outside source, rather than being fabricated on site by the actual buckle manufacturer. Why do they "lean" ?

                      Regards,

                      David

Here is one type - but I do not know whether this is the original

A revival of this old thread as I was further documenting and re-photographing my HJ and DJ buckles.

Thought I would add to this thread with my B&N buckle with the side panel stamp of RZM M4/30. This buckle is made from nickel with brass catch and steel roller bar assembly. This is similar to the one Gary posted with the additional RZM embossed stamp by the catch.
