reproduction sdkfz 222

Chucky, I also am from Oregon and have had no luck with anyone willing to help with anything at all. Very dissapointing.

I have purchased a reproduction Sdkfz 222 from MSR reproductions, and he's building it right now. The first one that he built is here in Oregon, and owned by my friend. They look really good.

There is only one dead on correct reproduction 222, and it was built by two guys here in CA ( 21 PZ and 2nd FJD). It was in the film Valkyrie. All the measurements were taken off of Littlefields original 222 when it was being restored, and all the components were seperate, including the armor. I have seen the others, and they are not correct in regards to angles, sizes of the plates, etc. If you want to make a dead on reproduction, you should go to either the patton museum or visit Littlefields museum ( best ). If you compare photos of the original to the other reproductions, you will see the differences. It escapes me why the gentleman who made a few, didnt copy Littlefields?

The originals also had 18" wheels, which ive only seen on the CA reproduction. The correct tires are available from Lehar in CZ. Where you find 18" correct wheels now, ???

Also, in regards to "Oscha. Norberts 222", could you provide some original photos of the MG42 anti-aircraft ( ? ) mount seen at camp roberts? I cant seem to find any, or MG-42's mounted on 222's either? Not an attack, just that my reference is evidently limited on this vehicle. Thank you.

i have two photos of mg42 mounted in position on 222 .
i would like to know how they got the four wheel indepdant suspension and 4 wheel steering done on the california 222, post some views of the california 22 or post a link .

The 4 wheel steering was lockable to two wheels, which they did. I have the complete British evaluation with drawings done during the war that I could make available to anyone wishing to take on this project.

If I remember correctly, they custom made the suspension. they also made the pedistol 2cm / 34 mount, the correct push-pull elevation / traverse, etc.

Hallo Kamerad, Yes I know there are some imperfections on my 222, however ,overall I would say it looks pretty nice. I of course didnt make it just bought it and bought what was available . If there were multiple sources producing these I am sure I would have gone with which ever one was more accurate.
I have seen photos of 42s mounted in the 222, but in the same mount spot as the 34 would go. However, no I have not seen any 42s mounted as we did at Roberts which is probably what you are referring to.
We did what I would think any 222 commander would have done if his 34 was out and had no immediate options for re-supply; our Waffenmeister made a mount for the 42 in a few hours with a welder and some steel. This allowed us to mount the 42 on to the turret so we at least still had a gun. Not perfect, but none of the GIs we greased with it seemed to complain ! LOL!
We hope to have our 2cm fully functional with blanks for the next Roberst event coming up and have taken out all the gas gun stuff which I never liked.
As you know ,owning and maintaining and making authentic any piece of armor is not only a financial strain ,but just an all around hassle. We do the best we can and are always trying to improve it and appreciate very much yours and anyone elses constructive criticism.
I would get correct tires if I could find them in USA.
