Thanks, Andreas. At least now we know where the GPB belonging to Heinrich Beverungen via John Pepera wound up! Again, such a shame to break up that set of awards!

The grouping has been broken up and enhanced long before it has been offered through Weitze's. By the time it was offered by HH, both Gauadler badges were missing but a tinnie from Erfurt was added in their place- something that was not part of the original grouping when John had it. Looks similar though...Personally I do not care who broke it apart as I do not believe in that sort of thing (groupings) but I would be interested in finding out who 'salted' it with additional items...

On the other hand the mini is not what you might call 'usual' so perhaps the buyer didn't subscribe to 'if it was good enough for John, it is good enough for me' and believed instead in evaluating the item, not the story.

Just something to keep in mind next time you see a 'broken-up grouping'.
Oh, his Gauadler # was 366 for anyone following that sort of thing.

        cheers

Thanks for pointing this out again. Differences had been discussed already here and on WWM.

Just great that Gauadler's can be tied to the party number and therefore GPB, party book and other items. I am all for groupings.

Yes, I have read the other thread. What you misidentified as Egendorf pin is in fact a miniature Thuringen Gau Adler- not one that can be tied to anyone really.

My point is- the miniature Gau Thuringen pin (or Egendorf pin to some) is a cast fake.
As knowledgeable and careful as John was, he made mistakes like the rest of us. Trusting blindly in any artifact as one supposedly coming from his collection and therefore being 'right' is IMO being 'financially reckless' as one of our members put it on another thread.
In any event, nothing aimed at you personally James- to be honest I wasn't even sure who coined the above phrase- I presume now it was you. My apologies if it offended you.

                cheers

yes, Matt, it was my original comment; my regard for John Pepera as a collector, a researcher, a historian and as a friend and fellow-traveler in this hobby is nearly boundless. I am grateful for your apology.

                      70890 now available here.

SS OFFICER GOLDEN PARTY BADGE AND COLLAR TAB AND ESSEN GAU HONOUR BADGE
SS Officer Paul Bielecki Party No.70890 SS No.12310.
Award is in moderatly worn condition and has a period upgrade screw back modification obviuosly the owners of these awards were very proud and the standard pins wear rather flimsy, this actual badge is featured in Angolias excellent reference "Fuhrer and Fatherland political and civil awards of the Third Reich" page 179.
Included is a research flie of over 65 pages which includes a photo of Bielecki actually wearing the award! Included in the lot is a machine woven 25.SS standarte collar tab complete with silk RZM SS label, this is exactly the type of tab as Bielecki would have worn as EM/NCO whilst serving in the ESSEN based Std.Interestingly Bielecki was not only a GPB holder he also earned the Gau Honour badge presumably ESSEN.
I would split the lot at 450 for the tab and 1150 for the GPB
(note: wonder why a Gau Essen honor badge is mentioned in the header ?)

The collar tab was not included in HH's Lot 8058:

                      Lot Nr. 8058
SS Untersturmführer Paul Bielecki - a Golden Party Badge of the NSDAP in 24 mm
Josef Fuess München produced heavily worn gilt Tombak with damaged inset silver-plated, enamelled party badge. Party member number "70890" on reverse. Period replacement of pin with screwback. Cf. Angolia, For Führer and Fatherland Political & Civil Awards of the Third Reich, p. 179. Collector prepared research folio included.
Condition: III Limit: 250 EURO 660 EURO

Dear, Mr. Fee, Regarding the GPB I am offering on my site:- www.hannahsreich.co.uk, if you read my description again you will see that I refer to the 25 tab as being exactly like the one which would have been worn by Bielecki and there is no suggestion it was Bielecki's personal property, indeed that is why they are priced individually, for your further information I have now included in the lot an example of a Hoffstatter Gau Essen pin (not yet pictured on the site) also of course not Bielecki's property and kept the total price the same
There was and is no attempt to make any deception, I am disappointed at your inference that this could be the case.

I'm confused- Are you including a Gau Essen Honor Badge or a Hoffstatter Gau Essen tinnie in this lot?

Andreas, i actually agree with the price rise from the Hermanvs Historicvs sale to the web site at present. Recent info that has come to light, suggests that this badge, pictured by J.R Angolia somethingorother a.D, is actually one of the very rare genuine items that he ever pictured, in any book
