Thats still very cheap, I think usually you could expect to pay maybe 120€ or $150 at least for a nice example.

ErickS, thank you for sharing this WONDERFUL picture. You have scored again, with such information backed up with solid information. Where were you lucky enough to obtain this? Was there other stuf with it? So many questions. I see he has the 1933 badge as well.

Hi Smitee, not my photo but it just furthers the knowledge of this interesting historical badge.

It was on another forum but I'm not sure who actually owns the photo.

So can I asume the information, "Joe, yes this badge preceeded the BO but also continued to be awarded for other purposes after the BO was introduced. There is evidence that the badge was awarded in 1935 to an Austrian who was too young to have been involved in the Putsch."

"here is a photo from 1935 of an Ostereicher Volunteer who later entered the Totenkopf Div. Being that he's and Austrian and along with his young age this would have precluded him from being a Putsch participant. " was obtained from the other forum?

I would very much like to track this down and see if more can be extracted. Again many thanks for bring it up. This is of the most interest. It is not in the reference books I have.

I think that the bottom line is that this badge was awarded to those from Munich who participated in the Putsch and was preceeded the BO by about a year because the BO started to be awarded in 34. This badge was a regional award and it held no official status. The badge was later awarded by Wagner for other reasons as we have seen by the posted photo.

There was no evidence it came direct from the estate as it was coming via another collector so I only purchased the Blood Order, not the story.
It was a first pattern medal from Bavaria.
                  Thanks for sharing that Jon

                    Hi Erich,

I'm not doubting you Erich, I think this badge was originally awarded to those who participated in the Putsch as well. But I was wondering if there is any official period documentation that proves this?

                    Thanks,
                    Erich

Hi Erich, Ihave no period reference to be 100 percent certain that it was awarded to Putsch vets. With that being said, the official name of the award kinda says it all.

                        Hi Erich,

Thanks, I had not known that this was the official name of the award. That certainly put things into perspective!

Though I think this badge holds a place of prominance in political material, it is not an uncommon badge. Every trip I have made to Germany has resulted in finding one or more of these badges. Additionally, this badge seems to come up for sale by many dealers very often. It just doesn't appear that this badge has a great rarity factor attached to it.

With the amount of badges available and at very attractive pricing, one can get a badge that was originally awarded for the same event as the BO. A Win Win IMO!

As the thread "starter", sincere apologies toward the lack of constructive discussion on my part here, however I have just arrived home (Bahrain).

Wonderful and enlightening information and thankyou to all.

An enigmatic badge and which has an important and special significance in my opinion and yet, so "common" and readily available at a most reasonable price.

                              Again, thankyou.

                              Regards,

                              David

                                Hi Erich,

May I ask to the source, because I thought the badge was nothing more than a celebration badge, and had nothing to do with to Blutorden.

                                Best,
                                Laurens
