wreath leaves not clear or in focus, but paint clearly visible in recesses, and void on high spots where worn.

sorry i took these almost 2 yrs ago, but show color, and i am wondering if the one in the photo is similar, as it appears to be close. So this os one end of the hinge type used.

Not only is the mark unlike any ive seen, but the numbering is also not ribbed inside, as most seen are all the same maker. How would one find out if 475 ever made any of these? I dont know? Its a mystery to me. This is one of those deals you cant always get an opinion on prior to the snag.

Different light , and shows the metal more like a copper , I think i tweaked it some with photoshop. So why would any company use an L before the number , then no slash, then the number, then a slash, then an rzm? The numbers and marks are all stamped in, not incused, and actually double stamped, or bounced some if you will as it can be seen with closer shots on all the marks. (wich i have seen before on other originals ...so the mystery continues.(no edges are sharp, all are smooothe)

I think the marks you see in the photo are from the material of the middle of the point on the top of the badge, as this one looks very close. Now i know what people may say...like it isnt good or whatever, but it still appears to be just like the one in the photo, and isnt shiny gold, and also has tooling marks like it was worked over by hand if thats the right term.
I bought it because it sure is different, and why it has paint is my main question, as when i bought it i didnt even notice that part till later in photographing it. I think its possibly painted(just a theory)because it was worn in combat. whether it was done by the owner, or by the company that made it, it is still an enigma, and ive never seen another, except in this photo, and it really freaked me out.

The black enameling is highest quality, and so pick it apart, it doesnt matter to me, but thats what the forum is for, and why the question was for mountain HJ units, or just a subdued badge.
The next obvious question for the viewers is....when was this badge instituted.

Maybe once we know that we can determine approximately what year this was , or would have been awarded by the SR#, and then the next question is how many were issued totally approximately...so im gonna allow some air in the conversation for others to give input on whatever they feel is their forte...on the subject as this is real interesting to me , and i hope it is to you, and that you will give your opinions also.

These badges, all versions...the numbered, the "B" version and the miniature are all maker marked RZM M1/101.

will edit to say too that the badge can be seen on both sides of the uniform in original photos, though not at the same time of course

Thats what i thought M1/101,that is correct as to most of all ive seen also...so could this have been a private purchased badge ordered from this company by a soldier, or what could be the senario ?

My great uncle was in the SS-Leibstandarte, he wore his Leistungsabzeichen on a picture in 1943 also on the left side.

                            Regards,

                            Daniel

Hi colin: thanks for telling that

so it would appear that the badge could be worn on either side of the uniform.
