I hate to admit it was while reading a book on Heydrich's assasination that got me looking into these badges. Started seeing them crop up on Luftwaffe pilot uniforms also in several books.

I am not shure, but i think it was because it was called "Das Reiterabzeichen" And the "R" comes from Reiterabzeichen

          But i am not shure.

          Best Regards

            Reich

My understanding is that the R is for Reich. You have some very nice examples of Riders badges.Well done.I thought I was the only one collecting these too
I will post my badges when I get them out later.
            Regards,Ivan.

                    Hello,
Grip beautiful collection of badges. Particularly like the enamelled ones with the R on them. I have one of the SA donation plaques as you show and also a gold and silver version of honor plaque for horse breeding but unfortunately cannot post pics of it. Also regarding the black iron SA donation plaque, can you tell me the dimensions of it? Thanks, again nice items

                      Youth plaque

This is the SA youth plaque, presented to young men mostly as they attended riding tournaments.
                      Size is 111cm
Thanks Duzig for your kind words. The enamel ones are for the breeding of Warmbloods for the Reich.
                      Regards,Ivan.

Any comments on the eStand Reiterabzeichen that started the revival of this thread? I'd be interested to hear knowledgeable opinions on this badge, which can be seen at:

                            http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=365323

I am interested in obtaining one of these, to display on my Cavalry Tunic.

                            Thanks,
                            Bob.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.....

                              My Opinion

This a typical gold riders award for this maker.I can see why some would want it discussed. The finish on these by this maker were not as crisp in the early days, but this one is ok IMO only and I have a full set as you can see above that I have had for years that I am more than happy with. They are being reproduced in the UK or were last year where I saw several on Ebay from a seller in Middlesbrough in the UK.
                              Regards,Ivan.
