Reichssieger 1944

Originally posted by XEN View PostStrictly speaking Richard, that is incorrect. The Kreissieger was the winner of the Ortswettkampf. There were only three levels in this competition: Ortswettkampf, Gauwettkampf and Reichswettkampf. Those who produced the best overall results during the Ortswettkampf were awarded the Kreissieger badge and accompanying winners document. This was decided by a Kreis-level Committee. Kreis winners were then eligible for the Gau-level competition and then obviously the Reich competition if they won at Gau-level.
You can see that the winner in the example below is Kreissieger in the Ortswettkampf. My boy took part in the Ortswettkampf in his town but was ultimately beaten to Kreissieger by another entrant within his Kreis.
So the progression is:
best in town (ortswettkampf) goes forward for consideration for Kreissieger at county level and ultimately becomes the best from all towns within his county (Kreissieger im Ortswettkampf).
I am taking my information from Axmann's 'Der Reichsberufswettkampf' (published 1938) mainly and other sources in general.
Hope this clears things up.
edited to add more information..

To be honest, no matter which year such a document is for it will say Kreissieger, Gausieger or Reichssieger. The stages a winner went through to get there were always the same regardless of what the wording on the document is.
