Here is a heavy version with the same die flaw in the eagle's wing. It is a vet purchase. In all the years I have tracked vets, this is the only one I have found. I would love to have the thin version by MM 19 to have both types.

When you say 'thin', please tell me mm's in thin versus thick?

Here's the Souval copy. Comes in the 25, same eagle. This is a postwar sixties copy, not original, not mine, just an old archived photo.

The souval copy you posted is the same eagle as on the copy 25 year i posted. Notice the complete lack of symetry on the swastila.

Yes, thought it might be. As I remember Souval was the only producer of convincing fakes back as far as the sixties. They made a Spanish War Next of Kin cross that looked pretty nice. That one almost got me several years ago.

When I was buying original surplus from firma Souval, in the late 1960's and early 1970's, I never bothered with their new production. I wish I had been more curious, but dollars were scarce and I wanted to buy the left-over stocks they were selling. Periodically, Herr Umlauff would throw something, newly made, in with my orders. I was always shocked that the new made badges and medals cost about 3 to 10 times the cost of WWII surplus. However, the surplus was not always in very nice condition, with water damage, failing finishes, poor finishes( rejects?) and corrosion. The newly made items were OK, but differed in raw materials and the fittings hardware. Of course, they were new and looked new.

Had I been able to save all that I bought at 60 cents each (in lots of 1000), I could buy that 200 foot houseboat I would like to have!!!!!

I have recently been sent photos of two more crosses with the flaw on the eagles left wing. What I find interesting is that one of these crosses is the 15-yr example. The eagles also appear to have a different shaped head to the "19" marked examples.

First I'll say....NICE CROSSES!!! A very interesting thread too. I have a question (slightly off topic). I'd really like to see a scan of a ring with the "19" mm on it if possible. Thanks.

Thought I would bring this back up to the top as I have aquired a heavy version 25 year cross, again unmarked with the flaw to the wing.
IMO these are absolutely original, the quality is actually very comparable to the 19 marked crosses- ie not very good!
This one also has the dark seam to the ribbon that Stan mentions. Following these pictures I have spent some considerable time cleaning 70 years worth of nicoteine from the enamel and it was hard going!
Here she is anyway, these are very rare medals.

ps. the wreath on the reverse appears to be aluminium, you can see it has worn to the base metal much faster than the front

Perhaps it's my imagination working overtime, but the ribbon on that Niemann Cross posted in post #12 looks to be red with green side-stripes, & if those are the ribbon's colors, then that ribbon is for the WW1 Bulgarian War Service Medal 1915-1918 ( which was ok to have a crossed swords on it. )
