    Cool Grouping with Blood Order

Hermann Historica has a grouping attributed to Ernst Kaltenbrunner which includes his Blood Order # 4017. On a side note, there is a nice original 1st type Coburg Badge up for bid as well.

When looking at the BO ribbon, you will notice there is no white edging along the outter edge. I have seen this a couple times, but only on late BO's in the 4000 range, which were original IMO. It seems that for some very late issued Orders, there may have been another maker of ribbons.

The all-embroidered DK (no metal wreath) is very controversial. I wonder if the presence of this one in a group will settle the question?
      Best regards,

Looking for ROUND BUTTON 1939 EK1 Spange cases (LDO or PKZ)

Good question, the BO looks good though.

If you log on to Hermann's site you can see the entire grouping, including an interesting ring. I'm really not sure if the BO actually belonged to Kaltenbrunner because there's no way at this point to match numbers with names on the 2nd patterns. With that being said, he was awarded his BO in the early 40's so the 4017 number would be correct.

Correct Erich ,May 1942 it was awarded in fact.
That corresponds to the high issue number but as you rightly said it is not solid proof that this is his medal.
The medal is correct for its vintage. Personally I do not care for the finish, details and appearance of these awards in the 4000 range, even though they are legitimate blood Orders.
Unless I had some documentation to go with this to prove number 4017 was Kaltenbrunners I certainly would not be bidding the kind of money the reserve is set at !
I should imagine there must be some record of his Blood order issue number given who he was somewhere in his massive files?

When dealing with large amounts of money such as in this grouping, there must be iron clad provenance. My feeling is for them to put this much of a reserve on this grouping, they must have it, although they don't mention it in the description.

Guys, there are a couple of fantastic items in the sale with low estimates. I shall be bidding on a few lots but should imagaine the estimates are well out from what they will realise, but you never know

Remember the AH EK1 that sold on their last auction, 180k (euro). With "solid" proof, a typewritten document signed by Anny Brunner Winter. I wonder how many times that EK had been changed since the document was written

Jon, that was a typo error

On the listing, it says "Included is a notarised and attested statement of provenance from the family." I suppose that this statement is only for the ring and not the grouping?

The full text writes "Honour ring of the City of Vienna. Gold, with an applied onyx shield with partly enamelled city coat of arms and a continuous laurel décor with swastika. The inner surface with an engraved plaque "Ehrenring der Stadt Wien für Dr. Ernst Kaltenbrunner 30.1.1941", stamped number "11". Weight about 36 g. Included is a notarised and attested statement of provenance from the family."

Jon, there were MANY legit pieces from the Winner Estate, but you're right, how can one be sure of the EK1's provenance with no special markings. I'm sure there was a legit Hitler EK1 in the 1970 Auction, but with the one sold not long ago, there's no way to know if it was the actual one from the original Estate lot.
