It´s one of 22 half-timbered houses built for staff and administration of the SS-Ärzteführer-Schule Alt-Rehse - all protected by german law today as historically important objects of the period.

I think an NS Ärzteführer-Schule as opposed to SS?

                  Ahh, thanks for the infomation...

Im an Architect so I do take interest in anything to do with historically significant buildings. I imagine if it is protected under heritage law you would only be able to change the interior, none of the externals...

                    Chris,

Have a look into the thread "A couple of cultural items" and you will find a shared pic showing the main entrance and guard house with the flag of the SS and an Allgemeine SS-man standing a post.

The school was guarded and under control of the SS and the administration of Darré being responsible for the agricultural part of it, the Gut Neu-Rehse next to Alt-Rehse.

Nonetheless you are right in so far as it was in general a co-product of NSDAP and SS - as it was so typical and common habit within the period.

My wifes Great Grandfather was there, but as a Arzt with political functions, so NS not SS. From the group photos it seems they were all older, and some a bit overweight... but there was no sign of any SS connection (at least in the time shortly after it was founded).

Sure, they teached within it´s time of existence as a medical school according to surviving and already studied docs at least about 20.000 people and as one can imagine that could not be only NS- or SS hardliners within the medical system.

                        "...Arzt with political functions..."

Do you have any idea or docs what his job really was?

After their successful studying time many also received a photo album depicting the several buildings and rooms as a kind of rememberance piece and self-introduction - maybe your relative received that one as well?!

It would be interesting to hear more from you.

Yes, and it was fortunate for him that he did not survive the war (according to the family).

He told them stuff YOU would definately not believe, and by 1940 was pretty down on the whole brown pack.

There is a Spiegel Magazine from the 1980s (or ealry 90s) about Alt Rehse, there is a group photo on the cover where he can be seen.

Now that sounds interesting - maybe one day you will share more background info.
